Soon it is International Women’s Day, attributed with a wide range of meanings: flowers, outraged men, feminism ... But what are we celebrating on March 8, how should we commemorate this day? While visiting a museum recently, I came across this one picture from the seventies of the last century – and it is still valid.

Wikipedia says: International Women's Day (IWD) is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women.
It is also a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
Spurred on by the universal female suffrage movement that had begun in New Zealand, IWD originated from labor movements in North America and Europe during the early 20th century. The earliest version was purportedly a "Women's Day" organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City February 28, 1909.
Why don’t we call this Women's Equality Day? The purpose of this one day in the year is not to exchange polite wishes.
It is about parents talking to their daughters about their opportunities, desires, the power that resides in them.
It is about drawing attention to cardinal issues such as violence against women, inequality, domestic violence or sexual harassment at work.
It is about letting us remember women who have been of great significance in history and in the field of social change.
It is about having my part in empowering women to co-create a world for my daughters without fear, without glass ceiling, but with opportunities, with self-confidence, with power.
So this year, let us celebrate Women's Day differently. Because this day is not about empty words, but about strong and determined women.
